Having studied in a quite conservative department, such as the Department of Greek Philology of the NKUA (despite the small Linguistics surprises), I discovered and fell in love with research, its methodology and ethics, during my postgraduate and doctoral studies at the DPE of UTH. My research wanderings or flânerie, led me to sociolinguistic research and more specifically to ethnographic and rhizomatic approaches of language use. I have been working for more than 10 years with youths, children and adults that have complex sociolinguistic and educational trajectories and have experienced exclusion, sociolinguistic injustice, stigma, uprooting, detention, invisibility, language and other rights violation or deprivation. Co-shaping literacy spaces with them I have been deeply influenced on how to share, to listen to, to respect, to learn by the person I have in front of me in every encounter we have and thus I grow better. Better and full. Full of ideas, feelings, stories and new people in my life.
I constantly seek the meaning of words and texts within explicit and implicit discourses, on space, bodies, pictures, gestures and movements. I believe that learning no matter how it is offered, in continuities or discontinuities, in lines, circles and diagonals, it can give shape, color, direction, perspective, namely it can change anyone’s live. Important people -among others- who have influenced my thinking are Ferdinand de Saussure, William Labov, Gunther Kress, Ingrid Piller, Jan Blommaert, Teresa Lillis, Ruth Wodak, Norman Fairclough, Lilie Chouliaraki, bell hooks, Paulo Freire, Gilles Deleuze, and Michel Foucault. Even more important people who have shaped my heart and have taught me to live, to learn, to share and accept others love, are my daughter, the father of my child, my brother, my parents, my beloved friends, my special students, my generous and strong teachers.
The Rhizo-Eduscapes project for me equals to a place of encounter among new or beloved people with whom we have been working for years in various research, non-/academic environments· a place of becoming mature research ideas and experimentation with innovative approaches and thoughts· a safe translanguaging space for becoming researchers with different sociolinguistic repertoires but common faith in the power of research towards social change. The concept of the rhizome allows me to activate my sociolinguistic imagination beyond predefined lines and boundaries palpating anew language, communication, space· to reflect creatively and critically· to hope with agency· to assemble superficially parallel fields, issues, ideas, and desires. Inspired by the principles of sociolinguistic justice, I envision a better present being aware of the past and with hope for the future.

Beyond that… my institutional role is ‘Assistant Professor of Sociolinguistics’, and I am based at the interdisciplinary Department of Language and Intercultural Studies of the University of Thessaly.

["post-424","omada","type-omada","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
